Recession

It looks like the economy is officially in a recession. As a matter of fact, they say that it has been in a recession since last December. I can vouch for that. And it doesn't seem to be a end in sight.

I was riding around last night and started looking at some of the places that have went out of business here over the years. Here in a small town you would not think that it could be a lot. But just in a few miles there were five manufacturers that were not longer here. That does not count the other five that were located on the other end of the county. We have a population of less than 50k here also. So that is pretty bad.

Is it like that every where? Many of the jobs that were here had to do with the auto industry. We had manufacturers that made cloth for the upholstery. They are all gone now. Other manufacturers were clothing manufacturers, all of those jobs have been sent overseas. Even one of the car dealerships that has been open for as long as I can remember closed its doors last week. It is so bad, I wonder how it is going to be corrected.

This is definitely the worse financial times I have ever seen. I hope that the down fall will be reversed someway. If it is, then whoever is responsible for it will definitely be one of my heroes.

I live in a large, well populated town, and it's happening here too.
On our main drag, vacancy and for rent signs keep popping up almost every other day. A ton of Mom and Pop stores, and even some of the bigger retailers have gone out of business or shut their doors, and it's scary, really. You begin to wonder how all this is going to turn out.
One of my favorite diners that has been here for decades closed, and that was personal for me because I knew all the people that worked there. I'd stop in every other day or get food delivered from them.
One of the cooks used to have his little 4 year old son in sometimes, and he is the funniest little thing, always talking non stop.
I wonder what's going to happen to all these people who are losing their livelihoods in this bad economy.

I also live in a good sized city and here they are even tearing buildings down that use to be at one time big companies, that of course laid off hundreds. The crime rate where I am at is absolutely horrible. And from what the world news said tonight there is no end in sight in the near future, it's sad, very sad. I pray for all of us all over the world. I also pray for the safety of all of us in the city here too.

It's really sad and a bit scary. Every day it seems I hear of either people losing their jobs or stores or companies closing up. I think we're actually heading for a depression. Better save everything you can.
