Filly euthanized

What a interesting day at the Kentucky Derby. First, Big Brown took home the Roses. Secondly the runner-up Eight Belles has to euthanized before she could ever get off the track. No I did not make a mistake by calling Eight Belles a she. She was the only filly in the race.

She collapsed going into the second turn on her cool down lap and broke both of her ankles. Leaving her unable to stand and therefore the vet had to do what it had to do.

Racing is dangerous whether you are a animal or a human. I have seen tragedy happen in all sports. But spectators still love to watch it. The thrill of victory can be great, but the agony of defeat can cause animals, or humans to lose their life.

I am sure there will be a little bit of news on this in the next few days. It is just sad that it happened. But that is racing.
